From Manchester to Montreal

Shen a Civil Engineering undergraduate from the University of Technology, Jamaica and has a passion for natural livity and as such makes natural beauty products as a hobby. With motivation from her family and MIM, in March 2017 she started Mi Natural, an all-natural beauty line that uses authentic oils as the main ingredients, produced by a local Jamaican Farmers. Mi Natural is currently focusing on Hair Potion- a hair oil that lengthens, thickens, strengthens the hair and so much more.

The invitation to StartUpFest Montreal was tied with being placed in an accelerator for three months at Impact Hub, Le Salon 1861, Montreal where Shen receive mentorship necessary for growing Mi Natural. StartUpFest took place from July 12 to 15 at Vieux-Port de Montreal. These days were filled with networking entrepreneurs, founders, investors, and mentors Earth’s four corners. It featured world-class content, from back-of-napkin ideas to champagne-popping exits, across three days of keynotes, interactive how-to sessions, and thought-provoking predictions.

During this time she was able to meet the founder of StartUpFest Phil Telio and many other multi-millionaire entrepreneurs who gave talks about their success stories such as Harley Finkelstein founder of Shopify and Sam Pasipalak founder of Maluuba. Ron Szekely, past Marketing Manager from L’Oréal also mentored Shen and gave great insight on enhancing Hair Potion.

This adventure allowed Shen to widen her horizon and is now in five stores and counting in Canada. From this experience she has truly learnt that Luck is recognizing that you are at the right place at the right time and seizing the opportunity as it presents itself. Shen is very grateful for the speedy growth of Mi Natural, the opportunity to be among great mind and has a filled heart with gratitude towards her family, MIM and all supporters during this venture.
